Hello there !

Starting to model something for the gun challenge.

My entry is a hommage to David Cronenberg and his Existenz movie that i saw again not long ago.

I was thinking to go in the direction of the weird gun constructed out of chicken and fishy creatures bones.

I didn't follow exactly the same design as i did it from memory.

Here is the first WIP update, basic zbrush sketching to find the global shape :

And some early shader tests in Substance Painter / Vray

One version just with the bones, and a second one with added bits of dirt/old meat attached, yummy 🙂

Modeling and including more props, now i need to put bit of dirt everywhere, and to texture the props as they are for now only basic shaders.

Slightly more evolved shaders, now i need to add all the detailed props, the dirt, rest of food, smaller bones and some weird amno-bones. Not 100% convinced about some parts of the gun neither, i will probably make an update of the model, let's see 🙂

Starting doing some light setup tests in parallel when i find a bit of time.

I think i want to go for a weird/surreal light atmosphere, with this greenish tone, to push the impression of paranoia of this guy being sure that his chicken bones are assembling into a gun to fulfill his "mission"

I want to get as well this instagramish/bad quality color tone to the final render, but a good part of it will be color grading in post.

Taking shape, will play a bit more with color setting, but the rest is getting quite close to final.

As there is still a bit of time before the deadline, i'm testing to implement a Houdini fluid simulation to add some driping sauce on the gun, to get a more dirty/slimey feeling to it. I'm very new to Houdini, so not sure it i will get a convincing result, for now it looks like disgusting melted cheese, let's see 🙂

starting to look better, now some shader test, to keep it transparent/subtle enough to not mask the gun details.
