I've been jumping between different 3D programs and can't decide what to stick with. Currently using Blender because it's free, but wondering if I should invest time/money in something else. Would love to hear what you guys actually use on a daily basis and why you chose it. Not looking for "best software" - just real experiences and opinions.

We use 3ds Max, Maya + Zbrush in studio. Would I pick them if I was starting now? Probably not.

Blender can do 90% of what Maya does, and the new sculpting tools are getting close to Zbrush. Only reason I stick with 3ds Max and Maya is because of pipeline and old projects.

I have been in the industry for over 15 years. Here's my take: Blender for modeling/basic stuff, Zbrush for serious sculpting (nothing comes close), Marvelous for cloth, Houdini for FX.

But if you're just starting out, master Blender first - it's free and crazy powerful now. You can always learn others when you really need them.

Started with Maya, tried to switch to Blender to save money...ended up going back to Maya. Yes, it's expensive, but I'm just so much faster with it. Those muscle memories from 10 years of use are hard to break lol. Although I do use Blender for some things Maya sucks at.

Surprised no one mentioned Modo! Best modeling tools out there imo. Much more intuitive than Maya for pure modeling work.

Different tools for different jobs. I use:

Zbrush - anything organic/sculpting;
Maya - animation/rigging;
Blender - quick modeling and personal projects;
Marvelous - cloth stuff;

No one software does everything perfectly.

Thanks all! I think I'll stick with Blender for now since I'm already familiar with it, maybe pick up Zbrush later when I need serious sculpting tools. Really helpful to hear real experiences instead of just marketing stuff.

This is a very interesting discussion.

In the last time I have to modify STL (for ex. car model), separate some parts (wheel, seats...) and create the body to print using a 3D resin printer (surfaces --> body).

What software would you use to do these steps (in the shortest possible time)?

Can I have a suggestion?

Thank you!
