Hey community!

I'm a 3rd year architecture student and we've been assigned a major project that requires using Sketchup for visualizing our building concepts. The problem is I can't really afford the full subscription right now.

Does anyone know if there's a free version for students or any legitimate way to get it without paying the full price? Our professor just told us to "figure it out" which isn't super helpful.

Any advice would be appreciated!

There's a student discount that brings it down to about $55/year for Studio version. It's actually a really good deal considering what you get. Here's the link: https://shop.creationengine.com/collections/sketchup-studio-for-students

The student version has all the same features as the regular Studio version - they just discount it heavily so you get used to their software and will buy it when you graduate. I used it all through school.

You could try using Sketchup Make 2017 - it was the last free version. You can find it on Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/sketch-up-make-en-x-64

It's older but still works well for most basic tasks. The only annoying thing is the startup screen takes like 10 seconds sometimes when it reminds you about their paid versions, but after that it runs fine.

Use a regular Gmail address to get the 7-day free trial but add a "+1" before the @ sign. Like if your email is [email protected], sign up with [email protected].

Gmail ignores everything after the + but before the @, so all emails still arrive in your inbox. When the trial expires, use +2, then +3, etc. It only takes 5 minutes to set up a new trial.

Works like a charm - all your plugins and settings even stay between logins.

Just use Blender instead. It's 100% free and WAY more powerful.
