Hi! I've been wanting to get into 3D sculpting and modeling but I'm completely lost on where to start. Which software would you recommend for total beginners? I'm looking for something that's relatively easy to understand and learn. I've heard about Blender and ZBrush, but I have no idea which one is more beginner-friendly or if there are better options out there.
Also, if you could point me toward some good learning resources for whichever software you recommend (YouTube channels, tutorials, etc.), that would be super helpful! Thanks in advance!
If you're looking for the easiest sculpting software to understand, I'd highly recommend Nomad Sculpt if you have an iPad. It's incredibly intuitive and has a gentle learning curve.
ZBrush is considered the industry standard for sculpting, but it has a steep learning curve and can be overwhelming for beginners. The interface isn't very intuitive at first.
Blender is free and extremely powerful, but you'll need to learn the basics of the software before diving into sculpting. That said, once you get comfortable with it, you can do nearly everything in one package.
If you're serious about this as a hobby or potential career, I'd suggest starting with Blender. The community is massive, there are tons of free tutorials, and the skills transfer well to other software. Check out Blender Guru's donut tutorial on YouTube to get started with the basics, then move to Grant Abbitt's sculpting tutorials when you're ready.
ZBrush for sculpting, Blender if you're on a budget, Maya if you want a job. Simple as that.
I use both Maya and Blender together and it's a great workflow. Honestly though, Blender is probably the best to learn on because:
1. It's completely free
2. Massive online community
3. Tons of tutorials and resources
4. The skills transfer well to other software
Once you learn one 3D program, picking up others gets much easier. So start with the one that has the most learning resources available.

Everyone always forgets about FreeCAD. Possibly the least intuitive software on the planet.
ZBrush is THE way to go for serious sculpting, especially if you're interested in 3D printing your models. The community is amazing and there are more high-quality tutorials for ZBrush sculpting than any other software. Yes, there's a learning curve, but it's worth climbing.
