Hello community, I'm in my final year of a Game Design program and starting to put together my environment artist portfolio to apply for jobs. I'm struggling to understand what studio recruiters are actually looking for. Is it just about showing I can model detailed assets like rocks and trees, or is there more to it? I want to make sure my portfolio stands out when I apply to game studios.

Studios are looking for a well-rounded portfolio that demonstrates several key skills. For environment art, you should include:

1. Strong modeling fundamentals (clean topology, proper UV unwrapping)
2. Varied themes (urban environments, natural landscapes, interiors)
3. Texturing skills (PBR workflow mastery)
4. Scene composition and storytelling
5. Technical optimization (LODs, texture atlasing)

Most importantly, show that you understand set dressing and layout. Know how to use scattering tools and create modular systems. Companies want to see that you can create efficient, visually appealing environments - not just individual assets.
