I've just started getting into 3D modeling and I'm looking for good sources to download free textures. Most sites I've found through Google searches are either paid services, have really poor quality textures, or only offer a tiny selection. I'd especially like to find places with normal maps included.
I tried Poliigon but their free selection is pretty limited. Is that just how it is in the 3D world, or are there some hidden gems I haven't discovered yet? Any recommendations would be super helpful!
Hi! Here are some of my go-to sites for free textures that include normal maps:
- https://ambientcg.com/ - All CC0 licensed, fantastic quality
- https://texturehaven.com/ - Great variety and well organized
- https://www.sharetextures.com/ - Patreon supported but has free options
- https://3dtextures.me/ - Nice selection of architectural textures
- https://www.cgbookcase.com/textures/ - Good quality PBR materials
All of these include normal maps and other maps you'll need. Hope this helps!
I'd also recommend checking out https://www.texturecan.com/ - they don't have the biggest library but what they do have is pretty high quality.
Don't forget Blenderkit! It's already built into Blender, you just need to enable it in your preferences. Really convenient as it sets up all the nodes for you automatically - huge timesaver when you're just starting out.
+1 for AmbientCG, definitely the best free resource out there right now.
Am I the only one who thinks we should be paying for these resources? The artists put in a lot of work to create these textures... 🤔
