Where can I sell 3D models and actually make money?

Finally built up a decent collection of models (mostly furniture and architectural stuff) and thinking about selling them. Total noob at the business side though - where do you guys actually make sales? CGTrader looks popular but their fees seem high. Any other good options? Tips appreciated!

You're already in the right place. 3DModels.org gets tons of traffic but doesn't have as many sellers as the big platforms yet. That means better visibility for your models.

Other options?

CGTrader - best overall, good exposure and fair royalties
TurboSquid - avoid unless you do exclusivity (their regular rates are terrible)
ArtStation - decent for game assets
Unity Asset Store - great for game-ready stuff

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. List on multiple sites but track which ones actually generate sales.

Also, consider pricing strategy carefully. Going too cheap just undercuts everyone and drives prices down for everyone.

Important legal note: make sure you're tracking income for taxes. Different countries have different thresholds for when you need to report online sales. In UK it's £1000/year for example.

Been selling on various platforms since 2018. Here's my monthly averages:

  • CGTrader: $400-600
  • TurboSquid: $150-200
  • Unity Store: $300-350
  • Artstation: $50-100

Remember - you can't sell models of copyrighted designs. That includes recognizable furniture brands, cars, characters etc unless you have a license. Be original or you risk takedowns.

@HaroldVew those numbers are insane! How many models do you have listed to get that kind of income?

About 200 models now, but only ~50 generate regular sales. Quality over quantity - spend time making stuff people actually need.
